What, exactly, is Amazon Global Selling? How does it work? And do we have it in Australia?
Let’s take a look.
Amazon Global Selling: the basics
Amazon Global Selling (AGS) is a program that allows sellers to list and sell their products internationally on Amazon’s various marketplaces. Right now, the program lets you sell to 14 international marketplaces, namely the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, China, India, Australia, and the UAE.
Using the Amazon Global Selling program is easy. You just need to choose what to sell and where to sell it. You then create your seller account/s and start selling your products under more than 30 different categories.
Amazon has tools to help youlist your products, manage your account, and make your products visible to as many new potential customers as possible. When a customer makes a purchase, you will receive a notification. You then deliver the product or let the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service fulfill the order.
Finally, you review your sales, handle customer service, process refunds and cancellations, and monitor feedback. Amazon provides numerous tools to help you scale your business internationally.
Advantages of Amazon Global Selling
When you use the AGS service, you leverage Amazon’s power and reputation as a trusted brand to boost your sales.
Amazon has loyal customers in more than 180 countries. The company has more than 175 fulfillment centers around the world. These will help boost your international sales andgrow your business exponentially.
By taking advantage of the peak seasons in other countries, you reduce your low sales periods.
Is this available for Australian businesses?
Yes. Amazon Australia was launched in 2017, so it’s pretty new. Amazon says that it will continue to add more independent marketplaces to expand your international sales.
If you decide to sell using the Amazon Global Selling program, you will need to pay a subscription fee per marketplace per month. The price varies for each marketplace. For Australia, the monthly subscription fee is $49.95 AUD.
Aside from this, you will also need to pay closing fees, referral fees, and refund fees for each product sold. The referral fee is based on the type of product sold. For digital products, there is a closing fee of $1 AUD.
Can you sell to Australia through this program?
Yes. Amazon Australia is relatively new but its list of sellers is growing rapidly. If you expand into this particular marketplace, you’ll need to create an Australian selling account or your products will be subject to the Goods and Services Tax on imported goods that was introduced in July 2018. The GST applies to Low-Value Imported Goods or imported goods with a customs value of $1,000 AUD.
